SAGE Advice for Sound Decisions

Sage Industry & Technology News

SAGE is an InfoComm Emerald Level Solutions Provider

    Good morning!

To make the most of the spring season, SAGE is getting out of the office to show you some revolutionary new product lines, like Nova's trolley monitor lift. We'll have a team at the Villanova University Technology Expo on April 22, and we'd love to see you there. Whether or not you can make it, we'd also be happy to bring demos to you. Feel free to call us at 717-653-6641 to ask questions or set up a visit.

As you gear up for summer construction and expansion, take note of how other institutions are using technology to move ahead. This month, we're featuring a new case study about a CCTV breakthrough at Dauphin County Technical School. That surveillance installation was only one of several systems SAGE has implemented on their campus, and we've been thankful for their partnership over the years. We'd like to work with you, too.

    AMX joins the iPad camp

AMX joins the iPad camp

AMX announced that their systems and devices are controllable by the new Apple iPad. These same AMX technologies currently support Apple, Blackberry, and Android- and Windows-based integration.

AMX offers two applications, one pre-designed and one customizable interface. Similarly, AMX offers apps that allow AMX technology to control music and video on Apple devices like iPod and Apple TV. Use any Apple mobile device for simplified room control, convenient backup (for when a touchpanel is inaccessible), cost-effective secondary control, or enhanced help-desk support.

The Apple iPad announcement has already drawn attention toward AMX's flexibility: the iPad demonstrates AMX's support of diverse devices and product lines. It complements the AMX Modero, Metreau, Mio and Novara lines. While they hold that their customers will continue to prefer the functionality and convenience of a dedicated touchpanel, they welcome smart devices (like the iPad!) that open the home automation market to a broader audience.

    Spotlight: Dauphin County Technical School

For its institution-wide expansion and upgrade, Dauphin County Technical School needed better bells, paging and intercom, next-generation multimedia projectors, new speakers — and a top-of-the-line CCTV surveillance system.

“It just didn’t work,” said Maria Zaharick, the Technical School’s business manager. Old, buggy technology hindered Dauphin County Technical School’s mission to prepare their 800 students for the real world.

The building’s rudimentary PA systems dated back to the 1960s, and some large areas (including the cafeteria) had no sound reinforcement whatsoever. The school’s structure and technology demanded a full overhaul. But the CCTV in place was perhaps most outdated. The system had low picture quality, and some cameras didn’t switch on at all. Outdoor coverage was especially spotty, with vast security gaps. SAGE promised to help.

    Diversitrack, a moving classroom experience

Diversitrack, the first sliding track-mount system of its kind, invites interactive whiteboards into classrooms without destroying existing chalk or dry-erase surfaces. This allows teachers to retain their existing space and move the new interactive board to the side when not in use. The affordable mount clears a standard chalk tray, is height-adjustable, and stops at precisely calibrated positions.
